A composition comprising a mesoporous silica that has a structure of three-dimensional channels with a framework of type MCM-48, as defined by the International Association of Zeolites, and which has as additional properties a length ranging from 3 micrometers to 10 micrometers and a width that it ranges between 300 nanometers and 10 micrometers, with the proviso that the ratio between length and width characterizes a relationship ranging from 1 to 300 and the morphology is substantially cylindrical; and that, in addition, it has a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area between 1300 square meters per gram and 1500 square meters per gram, an average pore diameter between 20 angstroms and 26 angstroms, and an average pore volume that ranges between 0, 7 cubic centimeters per gram and 1.1 cubic centimeters per gram.
