An antimicrobial composition to prolong the shelf life of water, feed or feed ingredients, comprising: 5 - 15% by weight of nonanoic acid, 10 - 20% by weight of acetic acid, 40 - 50% by weight of propionic acid , 5-30% by weight of trans-2-hexenal, and 5-30% by weight of butyraldehyde, undecylenic aldehyde, 2,4-decadienal, cinnamaldehyde, decanal or furfural.
