miRNA fingerprint in the diagnosis of COPD

A method of diagnosis of COPD, comprising the steps (a) determining an expression profile of a predetermined miRNA in a sample of blood cells from a patient, particularly a human patient together; and (b) comparing said expression profile with an expression profile reference, wherein the predetermined set of miRNAs comprises miRNAs that are differentially regulated in samples of blood cells from COPD patients compared to patients with lung cancer and comparing said profile determined expression with said expression profile reference allows the diagnosis of COPD and wherein said sample of blood cells is a blood cell fraction including erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes and wherein the expression profile is determined miRNA selected from Figure 5.
