A copolymer of vinylidene chloride with at least one monounsaturated comonomer and at least one branching monomer having more than one double carbon to carbon bond which is capable of copolymerization with vinylidene chloride, wherein the amount of branching monomer is sufficient to increase the molecular weight relative to a polymer prepared using the same process and the same monomers in the same relative amounts except that it has the branched monomer, but it is not enough to give rise to a certain measurable crosslinking by solubility in tetrahydrofuran at 83 ° C, said amount being at least 3 and at most 30 mole percent based on the base polymer, wherein the term "base polymer" means a polymer that is produced by a similar polymerization without the monomer branching.
