A wireless communication apparatus (302), comprising: a processing system (304), configured to: generate (802) an information element, IE; and provide (804) an indication of whether or not the IE is for devices that support segmentation, where the indication is provided by an order in which the IE appears on a beacon to be transmitted by the apparatus; and indicate that IE is for devices that do not support segmentation by placing IE before other IE in the beacon.
