A high power laser diode array, comprising: at least one high power laserdiode having aplurality of laser light emitters for emitting output laser beams, eachdefining, in a directionperpendicular to a direction of propagation of an output laser beam, a fastaxis and a slowaxis. A fast axis collimating means is provided for collimating the outputlaser beams in fastaxis direction to provide fast axis collimated output laser beams. A slow axisbeam shapingmeans is provided for collimating or focussing the output laser beams in slowaxis direction.The laser light emitters are displaced relative to each other in fast axisdirection or in fastand slow axis direction by equidistant spacings, respectively. An opticalmeans is providedfor forming an output laser beam profile in the far field of all laser lightemitters consistingof the plurality of fast and slow axis collimated or focussed output laserbeams arrangedadjacent to each in a seamless manner in one or two dimensions with an opticalfill factor of100% or close to 100%. The slow axis beam shaping means is comprised by orformed bysaid optical means. Thus, an optical fill factor of 100% can be achievedwithout arearrangement of the individual output laser beams.
