This invention provides the use of (1R-trans)-N-[[2-(2,3-dihydro-4-benzofuranyl)cyclopropyl]methyl]propanamide as a melatonin receptor agonist to a humansubject to treat orprevent a circadian rhythm disorder or sleep disorder. More specifically, itdiscloses theuse of (1R-trans)-N-[[2-(2,3-dihydro-4-benzofuranyl)cyclopropyl]methyl]propanamide(MA-1) for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatmentof acircadian rhythm disorder or a sleep disorder, the pharmaceutical compositionbeingformulated for orally administering MA-1 to the subject suffering suchdisorder in anamount of about 20 mg to about 50 mg per day.
