Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, apparatus and systemfor controlling a peripheral devicein communication with a content playout device. In various embodiments of thepresent invention, high definition multimediainterface (HDMI) applications are provided for communication between a controldevice and a content playout device for controllingthe operational functionality of a peripheral device via the content playoutdevice using HDMI communication means and, inone embodiment, vendor specific commands. That is, associated control signalsare provided for controlling and communicatingwith peripheral devices connected to a playout device, such as a display, for,in various embodiments, affecting the presentation ofspecific or requested content.
