AN OPEN PRESSURISED AGITATED REACTOR AND A METHOD FOR MIXING GAS AND SLURRY WITH EACH OTHER

The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for performinghydrometallurgical processes under pressurised conditions. The apparatusconsists of a tall vertical reactor (2) and a pressurised horizontal reactor(3)located beneath it. The vertical reactor (2) for its part comprises two nestedtubes, so that the upper part of the inner tube (4) is equipped with adown-draft mixer (6) and elements (17) that intensify the absorption of thesupplied gas into the slurry, such as Venturis. The slurry is fed into theinnertube (4) to flow downwards and the reaction gas is fed into the upper partof the inner tube (4) at one point at least. The vertical reactor (2) isconnected at its lower section to an autoclave-type horizontal reactor (3),which is equipped with effective radial mixers (7) to keep the slurrysuspension in motion and to achieve an upflow to convey the slurrysuspension into the outer tube (5) of the vertical reactor (2). In the methodaccordant with the invention the length of contact time occuring underpressurebetween the gas and slurry is extended by means of the horizontal reactor(3).
