Method for releasing and storing energy using metal particles, preferably made of aluminium, of size comprised between 2 nm and 800 µm, for releasing thermal energy and producing dihydrogen and carbon monoxide by oxidation of said particles in a spray possibly within an ionised gas plasma, and for storing energy by reduction of metal oxide, preferably alumina, into particles of metal, preferably of aluminium, of size comprised between 2 nm and 800 µm, said particles being kept in a liquid or gaseous storage medium, the particles being passivated either by an oxide layer or by the storage medium.
