[Purpose] To provide: a gate mechanism for switching between thin-piece transport paths, capable of separating transported paper in stacker directions at high speed while reliably preventing jamming; and a paper processing device provided with the gate mechanism. [Configuration] A gate mechanism for switching thin-piece transport paths is capable of switching between transport directions for a transported object transported in a transport path. The gate mechanism for switching thin-piece transport paths is characterized in that: at least a transport-path blocking surface, of a swinging member, for changing the transport direction for the transported object is formed in a plate shape, the swinging member swinging so as to locate at least a distal-end upper surface thereof at a transport-surface position in the transport path and so as to locate at least a distal-end lower surface thereof at a blocking position at which the transport path is blocked to allow the transported object to turn in a downward direction; and the swinging member is formed to have a required width by laminating a required number of parts having a predetermined width.
