[Problem] To provide: an antifouling coating composition which includes a silyl-ester-based (co)polymer and medetomidine and is for use in preventing bases from being fouled or damaged by aquatic organisms, the composition having satisfactory storage stability and being capable of forming an antifouling coating film that exhibits excellent antifouling properties over a long period; and a use of the antifouling coating composition.[Solution] The antifouling coating composition contains a silyl-ester-based (co)polymer (A), medetomidine (B), and at least one ingredient (C) selected from the group consisting of dehydrating agents (c1) and rosins (c2), wherein the silyl-ester-based copolymer (A) has a structural unit derived from a monomer (a) represented by general formula (I): R¹-CH=CH-COO-(SiR²R³O)_n-SiR⁴R⁵R⁶.
