METHOD FOR LOCATING A SPARKING FAULT IN AN UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC LINE

The invention relates to a method for locating a sparking fault in an underground electric line. A voltage pulse is generated in a disconnected portion of the line by means of the pulse generator. A magnetic field generated by the voltage pulse is measured by means of a magnetic field detector arranged on the surface above the disconnected portion of the electric line, in order to produce a signal that indicates the magnetic field. A resonance oscillation period is identified in the signal, and a distance of the fault from the pulse generator is calculated on the basis of the resonance oscillation period, a capacity of the pulse generator and a line inductance value applicable to the disconnected portion of the electric line. The fault is located according to the calculated distance.
