A spatial light modulator and method for displaying a computer-generated hologram using same are provided to display a dynamic computer-generated hologram in a large area. The spatial light modulator comprises multiple micro-electromechanical device units (20) arranged in arrays, and comprises a sensing device (201), a light blocking section (202) and a driving device (203), each micro-electromechanical device unit (20) corresponding to one image element in the computer-generated hologram. The sensing device (201) is designed to receive positional information obtained by means of the computer performing Lohmann's coding on the image element corresponding to the micro-electromechanical device unit to which the sensing device (201) belongs, the positional information being the positional information of the light blocking section (202) when the current image frame is displayed; and the positional information is sent by the sensing device (201) to the driving device (203). Upon receiving the positional information of the light blocking section (203) when the current image frame is displayed, the driving device (203) is designed to control the light blocking section (202) to move to a position corresponding to the positional information of the light blocking section (202) when the current image frame is displayed.
