This catalyst for methanation reaction is used for the purpose of methanizing carbon dioxide through a reaction with hydrogen. This catalyst for methanation reaction comprises: a stabilized zirconia carrier having a crystal structure of a tetragonal system, in which Ca and Ni are taken; and Ni in a metal state, which is supported by the stabilized zirconia carrier. This catalyst for methanation reaction contains, in atom% based on metals in elemental state, (A) 6-62 atom% of Zr that constitutes the stabilized zirconia carrier, (B) 1-20 atom% of Ca taken in the crystal structure and (C) 30-90 atom% of Ni taken in the crystal structure and Ni supported by the stabilized zirconia carrier in total, with the atomic ratio of Ca/(Zr + Ca) being 0.14-0.25.
