An information prompting method for use when adjusting a water heater set-up based on numbers, and a water heater, said method comprising: recording a water heater set-up preset by a user; recording the matching relationship between the water heater set-up and a specific number; reading number information inputted by a user; detecting whether a water heater set-up matching said number information exists; if not, then maintaining the state; and if so, changing the current set-up to the water heater set-up matching the number, and pushing patent information to the user. By means of combining a water heater set-up with an individual identifier (number), the current water heater set-up is changed between different users on the basis of an individual identifier (number), in order to implement rapid switching of water heater set-up between different users, and the interests of the creator of the technology are simultaneously protected.
