The present invention provides a system 100 and a method for electronic payment transactions via social media based messaging using non-text triggers. The system 100 and the method provide the users with the ability to initiate and send payments to one more recipients via social media based messages. The system 100 includes network devices 101, 103 configured with social media client modules 1 02, 104; and a social media message based payment system 106 communicating over a network 105. The social media client module 102, 104 is capable of initiating a payment service initiation instruction within the social media message. The social media message based payment system 106 detects the payment details in the message, analyzes, scrutinizes and communicates them to payment processor 112 for transfer of funds therebetween the electronic payment accounts associated with the corresponding sender and recipient social media accounts 116, 117.
