The present invention extracts glyph information with respect to special characters from a glyph map included in a portable document format (PDF) document, stores the information in a predetermined glyph table, renders shapes of the special characters based on the glyph information for the special characters stored in the glyph table, and inserts the same into a different electronic document when a command for copying the special characters from the PDF document into the different electronic document is applied; and as a result can ensure that the special characters can be copied into the different electronic document while retaining the same special character shape as in the PDF document.
