DOSAGE REGIMEN OF SODIUM SELENITE IN THE TREATMENT OF CANCER

The treatment schedule for the a dosage regimen treatment is shown in Fig. 1 and the present invention is based on clinical experimental data providing such dosage regime of the safe and non-toxic, but therapeutically effective administration of inorganic selenite to cancer patients. Accordingly, the present invention discloses a dosage regimen comprising: a) a short loading phase comprising infusion of a dose of an inorganic selenium compound of 0.125-2 mg/m² per hour for less than 5 hours followed by b) a long term phase comprising infusion of a dose of an inorganic selenium compound of 0.02-0.7 mg/m² per hour for at least 24 hours, wherein the infusion dose of the inorganic selenium per hour in the short loading phase is at least 2 times higher than the infusion dose of the inorganic selenium per hour in the longterm phase.
