A functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) method and an FMRI system are disclosed. The FMRI method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) obtaining multi-echo echo planar imaging (ME-EPI) data on an area of interest of an object; (b) calculating a standard deviation for a pure signal component, from which a noise component is excluded, for at least two pieces of echo time (TE) data among a plurality of pieces of TE data of the ME-EPI data; (c) estimating T2* deviation information of the ME-EPI data on the basis of the calculated standard deviations; and (d) displaying a functional image for the area of interest of the object by displaying strength in proportion to the estimated T2* deviation information.
