Disclosed are a method and a system for implementing an intelligent surveillance system. The method comprises the following steps: receiving video data of a camera (101); analyzing and processing the video data of the camera (102); if the analyzing and processing indicate that the video data is abnormal, then sending a retrieval command, wherein the retrieval command comprises an address and a time of video data to be retrieved (103); and receiving a video file sent by a terminal device and corresponding to the retrieval command, and storing the video file (104). Accordingly, the system comprises a receiving unit (201), an analysis unit (202), and a sending unit (203). The technical solution has an advantage of intelligent retrieval of video data.
