A method for adjusting volume level on the basis of the surrounding environment and an audio player: recording one or more sets of correlations set by a user between surrounding environment sound intensity intervals and volume decibels for music playback (S101); compiling statistics on the sound intensities of the surrounding environment during a certain period of time (S102); calculating the average of the sound intensities of the surrounding environment during the certain period of time (S103); determining whether the average of the sound intensities of the surrounding environment during the certain period of time is in a surround environment sound intensity interval set by a user (S104); if not, then alerting the user (S105); and if yes, then playing back a music at the volume decibel corresponding to the intensity period on the basis of the surrounding environment sound intensity interval in which the average falls (S106). By means of the correlations preset by the user between the surrounding environment sound intensity intervals and the volume decibels for music playback, the average of the sound intensities of the surrounding environment during a certain period of time is calculated, thus the volume level outputted by the audio player can be adjusted on the basis of the average sound intensity of the current environment.
