Provided are an educational toy kit and a method for detecting the placement shape and the position of a tangram. The kit comprises a support, a helmet detector, a base plate, and a positioning hole. The support is mounted on the base plate, the helmet detector is mounted on the support, and a first groove is disposed above the base plate; the bottom of the support is provided with a protrusion, and the protrusion is mounted in the first groove. A second groove and a third groove are formed in the top of the support, and the second groove is used for placing a tablet computer. The helmet detector is mounted in the third groove. The positioning hole is formed in a longitudinal central shaft of a side wall of the third groove. The method comprises: mounting a tablet computer installed with a game program on the educational toy kit, and placing a tangram on a base plate; collecting an image by means of the tablet computer; converting visual angles of the image to obtain the number of color boards in the tangram; calculating side lengths, angles and side length proportions of the contour of the edges of the color boards, and obtaining the placement shape of the tangram by combining with a preset original pixel value of the tangram.
