The present invention relates to a system for providing user customized news through a public display and a news providing method using the same, wherein a display terminal transmits, through short range wireless communication, information on the display terminal to all user terminals existing within a predetermined distance therefrom; a user terminal having received the information on the display terminal through a dedicated application for a user customized news service transmits user information of the user terminal, together with the received information on the display terminal, to a news providing server; and the news providing server transmits, according to the received user information, customized news information coincident with the corresponding user's preference to the corresponding display terminal, so as to display, through the display terminal, customized news information optimized for the user existing in the place where the display terminal is installed.
