Proposed is a microwave applicator for treating biological tissue, wherein the applicator comprises at least one ring-shaped resonator (R1, R1',…) which is applied as a two-dimensional construct on a flexible substrate of a planar, in particular coplanar waveguide (CPW) which excites the at least one ring-shaped resonator to introduce microwaves into the tissue in a focused manner by applying a high-frequency signal. For minimally invasive treatment of the biological tissue, the at least one ring-shaped resonator (R1, R1',…) has two extents (a, b) of different size which extend in two substantially orthogonal directions. The applicator can be formed, at least in sections, into a tube-shaped construct, in particular as a tube or for a tube, by virtue of the longitudinal-side regions of the substrate being bent over and/or rolled up. The waveguide may also be e.g. a microstrip line. By way of example, slotted ring resonators and spiral resonators can be used as resonators.
