The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for measuring a thermophysical property and a device for measuring a thermophysical property, whereby absolute thermoelectric power or thermal conductivity can be obtained easily and with high precision. In order to achieve this purpose, the present invention provides a method for measuring a thermophysical property, having a first step for applying a direct-current voltage or a direct-current electric current to both ends of a metal endowed with a temperature gradient and measuring a first temperature in a center part of the metal, a second step for applying a direct-current voltage or a direct-current electric current having a different polarity to both ends of the metal and measuring a second temperature in the center part of the metal, a third step for calculating the Thomson coefficient of the metal using the first and second temperatures measured in the first and second steps, and a fourth step for calculating the absolute thermoelectric power and/or the thermal conductivity of the metal using the Thomson coefficient calculated in the third step, the third step including a step for calculating the average value of a difference between the first temperature and the second temperature, a step for calculating the average value of the sum of the first temperature and the second temperature, and a step for dividing the product of the magnitude of the electric current flowing through the metal, the electrical resistance of the metal, and the average value of the abovementioned difference by the difference between the first temperature and the second temperature, and by the average value of the abovementioned sum.
