Disclosed are an apparatus for controlling an air supply to a fuel cell stack, which may reduce an air supply to a required air flow rate when a sharp reduction in an air flow that is supplied to the fuel cell stack is required to rapidly reduce a vehicle output in a pressurized operation status, and a method therefor. The apparatus for controlling an air supply for the fuel cell stack includes: an air compressor that compresses air to supply the compressed air to a reduction pole of the fuel cell stack; a back pressure adjusting valve that is installed in a line through which air that is reacted in the fuel cell stack is discharged; and a control unit that controls the back pressure adjusting valve and the air compressor based on a current air supply pressure of the air compressor and a required reduction amount of air, when a reduction in air that is supplied to the fuel cell stack is required.
