The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a winter cherry extract or withanolide as an effective component for skin whitening. More particularly, the cosmetic composition comprises withanolide derived from winter cherries as an effective component. The composition of the present invention suppresses the activity of tyrosinase which is a main enzyme in melanin biosynthesis, and suppresses the generation of melanin, thereby being effective in preparing a functional skin whitening cosmetic product.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
