A pick and place apparatus, method and computer program product for automatic pick-up height adjustment are disclosed. The first pneumatic system has a first controllable valve and a second controllable valve. A second controllable valve is connected to the vacuum source at its input port. The output port of the first controllable valve and the output port of the second controllable valve are connected to a common tube in fluid communication with the at least one vacuum nozzle of the pick and place apparatus. A second pneumatic system having an inlet valve and an outlet valve is in fluid communication through a connecting tube. The open vent and the flow controller are arranged in a connecting tube between the inlet and outlet valves. The flow sensor detects a small change in air flow. The flow sensor is in fluid communication with at least one vacuum nozzle through the tube.
