The present invention relates to a head mounted display (HMD) apparatus and an operation method thereof. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the HMD apparatus comprises: a display unit configured to display a predetermined image; a lens unit enlarging the image displayed in the display unit; a sensor unit detecting motion of the head of a user; a memory; and a processor storing the enlarged image including a first viewpoint image in the memory, displaying the first viewpoint image in a first viewpoint, and reading a region not included in the first viewpoint image from the memory to generate a second viewpoint image and display the generated second viewpoint image when a viewpoint is moved to a second viewpoint from the first viewpoint. Accordingly, image signal processing can be smoothly performed even when the viewpoint is moved.
