The present invention relates to a method for preparing butyldiglycol adipate and butyldiglycol adipate obtained thereby. The method for preparing butyldiglycol adipate according to the present invention comprises the steps of: 1) introducing adipic acid and butyldiglycol to form a reaction mixture; 2) carrying out a primary reaction of the reaction mixture under ambiend pressure; 3) carrying out a secondary reaction of the primary reaction product under vacuum pressure; 4) cooling the secondary reaction product; and 5) neutralizing the cooled reaction product. According to the present invention, the final product is prevented from an increase in acid value, and thus the amount of waste water is reduced with a small deoxidation amount and the yield of product is increased.
