The present invention relates to a multifunctional LED lantern communicated with a smartphone application, and to an operating method thereof. The multifunctional LED lantern communicated with a smartphone application, capable of controlling an operation function of an LED lantern with a smartphone application, comprises: a smartphone (10) embedded with an application (app) that is an application program for controlling an operation of an LED lantern; an LED lantern (100) communicating with the smartphone, and provided with a power supply and charge control unit (130) for controlling power supply and charge of the lantern and an LED control unit (140) for controlling an LED lamp of the lantern; and a communications unit (160) for transmitting a signal to be controlled via Bluetooth communications by using the application installed in the smartphone. The multifunctional LED lantern of the present invention is configured to easily control various functions of an LED lantern with a smartphone application, and accordingly, quality and reliability of a product are dynamically improved.
