The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating menopausal symptoms comprising an extract mixture of Curcumae Radix and Ghycyrrhizae Radix as an active ingredient, wherein the Ghycyrrhizae Radix is preferably, but not limited to, roasted Ghycyrrhizae Radix Praeparata. According to the present invention, the extract mixture of Curcumae Radix and Ghycyrrhizae Radix increases estrogen activity in human breast cancer cells (MCF-7); inhibits lipid accumulation in human liver cancer cells (HepG-2); and has the effects of inhibiting lipid accumulation, suppressing weight gain, and improving hepatoprotective activities and blood lipid levels in animal models in which menopausal hyperlipidemia is induced through a high-fat and high-cholesterol diet following removal of the ovaries. Thus, the extract mixture of Curcumae Radix and Ghycyrrhizae Radix of the present invention may be beneficially used as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating menopausal symptoms.
