The present invention relates to ″ara mandarin″ which is a new species of mutant Satsuma mandarin. More specifically, mutation is caused by irradiating gamma rays to the vegetative bud of early-maturing satsuma mandarin-based Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase, and the ″ara mandarin″ which is a new species of mutant Satsuma mandarin shows the properties of a late harvested satsuma mandarin species sorted through trait investigation of a mutant derived through grafting. The ″ara mandarin″ which is a new species of mutant Satsuma mandarin of the present invention is a novel artificially cultivated citrus mutant plant obtained by irradiating radiation to the bud of early-maturing satsuma mandarin-based Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase to be grafted and asexually propagated, and has flowering, fruit setting, and fruit shapes which are very similar to those of Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase, but specifically has a delayed fruit aging time compared to Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase. The ″ara mandarin″ which is a novel mutated citrus plant having a late fruit aging time compared to Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase which is a comparative species has high sugar content and a low sour taste. Due to late fruit aging thereof compared to Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa-wase, a concentration of a shipping time from late November to mid December can be avoided.
