A method for mitigating polarization mode dispersion in an optical transmission system and an apparatus therefor are disclosed. The method for mitigating polarization mode dispersion in the optical transmission system selects and processes optical signals for a plurality of branches with different polarization angles, respectively, and combines signals for the selected branches.
