The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for initializing a context model of context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) among video compression techniques. The method comprises the steps of: obtaining information on whether to perform adaptive initialization of a CABAC context model; determining whether to perform adaptive initialization of the CABAC context model; loading a reference CABAC context state; loading a CABAC context initial value according to QP; and initializing the CABAC context model. Therefore, encoding efficiency is improved compared to an existing video compression technique which fixedly initializes a CABAC context model.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
