In viscoelastic imaging using ultrasound, the shear wave velocity or other viscoelastic parameters are measured by tracing at the ARFI focus or at another high intensity position for the ARFI transmission. Rather than tracking the shear wave, the tissue response to ARFI is measured. The profile of displacements over time or its spectrum is measured in position. By finding a scale of the profile that results in sufficient correlation with the calibration profile, the shear wave velocity or other viscoelastic parameters can be estimated.
