The present invention relates to a method of preparing a mosquito repellent composition which is conceptually different from insecticides in that the mosquito repellent composition repels, rather than exterminates, mosquitoes. The composition prevents mosquitoes from approaching and entering by desensitizing their navigational instinct to gather near human habitations to consume blood, and since the repellent effect lasts for long periods of time, pleasant environments free of mosquitoes can be maintained for long periods of time. The method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing and naturally drying 45-55% of Zanthoxylum piperitum barks and 45-55% of Zanthoxylum piperitum leaves; (b) adding sulfur powder to water and heating to about 40-50C to prepare a sulfur water, and while maintaining the sulfur water at about 20-30C, immersing the Zanthoxylum piperitum barks and leaves therein and aging for 2-7 days; (c) preparing, mixing, and naturally drying 20% of each of Pelargonium citrosum vanleenii, Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, Eucalyptus globulus, Cinnamomum cassia, and Ocimum basilicum; (d) placing the Pelargonium citrosum vanleenii, Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, Eucalyptus globulus, Cinnamomum cassia, Ocimum basilicum into water mixed with butylene glycol and heating for 10-30 minutes for a first time and cooling, and then heating again in a water bath at 75-80C for 4-6 hours for a second time and cooling to produce an extract mixture water; and (e) mixing the aged sulfur water with the extract mixture water in the ratio 6 : 4 to produce a complex extract water.
