The present invention relates to a hardware protocol stack, and more particularly to a hardware protocol stack which can apply a protocol defined by a user. According to the present invention, header information stored in a registration unit is compared with header information of a received frame, and a method for processing the received frame is determined based on a result of the comparison. Furthermore, depending on the determined method for processing the received frame, data of the received frame is processed according to logic based on the header information, the data of the received frame is stored at a determined location, or a response frame is transmitted. Accordingly, according to the present invention, a function of interpreting a frame, having been applied only to a protocol provided by a hardware protocol stack provider, can be extended, and thus interpretation of a frame, not provided by the hardware protocol stack provider, and functions of interpreting and computing a protocol written by a user can be provided, thereby improving flexibility and scalability.
