Disclosed is a method for determining the number of clusters in a sensor network. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for determining the number of clusters in a sensor network is a method for allowing a sink node, which receives data collected through a plurality of sensor nodes included in a plurality of clusters of a sensor network via cluster head nodes of the respective clusters, to determine the optimum number of the plurality of clusters. The method comprises the steps of: setting the number of clusters to an initial value, and performing control so that the clusters are generated; changing the number of clusters a number of times so that the minimum value of the total number of transmission hops of overall data received from the clusters is determined; and determining the number of clusters when the total number of transmission hops is minimized, as the optimum number of clusters.
