The present invention relates to an eco-friendly heavy duty paint composition for steel, and to a coating method using the same. The eco-friendly heavy duty paint composition for steel is capable of extending lifespan of steel structures owing to extended lifespan of heavy duty coating films by applying hydrophobic eco-friendly paint which exhibits enhanced properties such as adhesiveness, antirust properties, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, flame retardance (self-extinguishability), chemical resistance, antipollution properties, chloride resistance, waterproofness, and weatherability. To this end, the eco-friendly heavy duty paint composition contains a hydrophobic eco-friendly oil-based epoxy resin, a flame retardant, a pyroligneous liquor, a silane compound, and zinc powder.
