A 3D encoding method and apparatus supporting a fast positive prediction mode with the same motion in advance type residual prediction (ARP) is disclosed. One or more ordered operations, including data clipping and reference picture selection associated with derivation of the motion vector, are used during residual prediction variable generation. When the ARP mode is enabled, residual prediction processing for single prediction and positive prediction effectively performs the same data clipping processing and the same reference image selection processing. A single clipping operation or two clipping operations can be performed for both single prediction and positive prediction.;
