In the present invention, provided is an external application composition for skin whitening including a kaurenoic acid derivative. The external application composition for skin whitening of the present invention comprises a compound of chemical formula 1 as an effective ingredient. In the chemical formula 1, R_1 and R_2 may be a C_2 hydroxylalkyl group, R_3 may be a hydroxyl group, and R_4 may be a C_1 alkyl group; R_1, R_2, R_3, and R_4 may be hydrogen; R_1, R_2 and R_4 may be a C_1 alkyl group, and R_3 may be a hydroxyl group; R_1 and R_2 may be a C_1 carboxyl group, R_3 may be a hydroxyl group, and R_4 may be a C_1 alkyl group; or R_1, R_3, and R_4 may be a hydroxyl group, and R_2 may be a C_1 carboxyl group. Therefore, the external application composition for skin whitening of the present invention specifically suppresses only melanophilin, thereby minimizing side effects due to an application thereof to a human body.
