A system for processing a wide viewing angle video comprises: a transmission device configured to extract a plurality of background images and at least one foreground image from an original wide viewing angle video and transmit the extracted background images and at least one foreground image; and a playback device configured to receive the background images and at least one foreground image from the transmission device, generate a wide viewing angle background image by combining the background images, generate a wide viewing angle image restored so that at least one foreground image is shown on the wide viewing angle image, and play the restored wide viewing angle image. According to the system for processing a wide viewing angle video, it is possible to overcome decoding limitations of existing virtual reality devices and produce a wide viewing angle image having an ultra-high resolution.
