The present invention relates to a composition comprising a Galla rhois extract as an active ingredient for preventing or treating constipation. The Galla rhois extract according to the present invention increases the number of defecation and the weight of excrement, increases the water content in excrement to ease defecation, increases the thickness of the mucous membrane and muscle, and increases secretion of the mucus to improve intestinal functions and alleviate constipation, thereby being usefully used for preventing or treating constipation.
