FIELD: physics.;SUBSTANCE: sequence for obtaining a magnetic resonance image is determined by the image acquisition protocol and the parameter values for the acquisition protocol parameter set. The quantitative contrast signal estimate is computed for the sequence to produce a magnetic resonance image corresponding to the type of contrast, for which a quantitative estimate is to be determined using the quantitative estimate equation. The contrast type is determined for the sequence for obtaining a magnetic resonance image, based on the calculated quantitative estimate of the contrast signal. In one approach, the calculation is repeated for a number of different contrast types, for which a quantitative estimate is to be determined, and the determination is based on the computed quantitative estimates of the contrast signal.;EFFECT: increasing the degree of the image contrast.;15 cl, 6 dwg
