An apparatus for superimposed magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography imaging, comprising: a magnetic resonance imaging magnet defining a longitudinal axis (z); a magnetic resonance tomography gradient coil (2) disposed radially inside the magnetic resonance tomography magnet; a magnetic resonance tomography RF coil (3) disposed radially inside the magnetic resonance tomography gradient coil (2); and a plurality of positron emission tomography detection units (5) arranged in pairs opposite to each other along the longitudinal axis (z) and arranged radially inside the magnetic resonance tomography gradient coil (2); wherein the plurality of positron emission tomography detection units (5) are insertable into and removable from the device along the longitudinal axis (z), characterized by a support tube (7) having a plurality of pockets (4) each in the longitudinal axis (z) for receiving at least one positron emission tomography detection unit (5) and serving as a supply for cables (11) for their connection, wherein at the cables (11) the at least one positron emission tomography detection unit (5) individually from the respective pocket (4 ) is removable.
