In a rotary electric machine with a built-in control device, a reduction of the machine is desired. The rotary electric machine with a built-in control device includes: a rotor having a permanent magnet for use as a sensor provided on the rear side of a rotor shaft, a front housing fixed to a first bearing holding a front side of the rotor shaft a motor frame including a rotor and a stator, a heat sink fixed to a second bearing holding the back side of the rotor shaft, a control substrate mounting a rotation sensor, a microcomputer, and a driver circuit. The microcomputer controls the drive circuit based on a signal from the rotation sensor and drives the plurality of switching elements. At least one of the smoothing capacitor and the noise reducing coil connected to the switching elements is disposed at a position of the far rear side of the control substrate.
