A reinforcing fabric (120, 220) for reinforcing an impact and / or structural composite member includes a non-metallic backing (124, 224) to which one or more steel wires (128, 228) are sewn. The steel wires comprise one or more steel filaments whose tensile strength is higher than 2000 N / mm 2. The sewing of the steel wires takes place in a curved trajectory. The reinforcement fabric allows reinforcement of complex composite parts with steel wire. In contrast to known fabrics with parallel steel strand for reinforcing composite parts, the fabric ensures a positive anchoring of the steel strand to the bends. Also described are methods of fabricating the reinforcement fabric based on plastic bending of the wire and / or the increased number of stitches per unit length in areas of small radii of curvature.
