Multi-level down-to-up converter with high efficiency

A power converter for converting an input voltage at an input terminal into an output voltage at an output terminal of the power converter will be described. The power converter includes an inductor having a first inductor terminal and a second inductor terminal, wherein the second inductor terminal is coupled to the output terminal. Furthermore, the power converter has a flying capacitor (C) with a first capacitor terminal and a second capacitor terminal and a switching cell (S1, S2, S3A, S3B, S4). In addition, the power converter has a control unit configured to operate the switching cell (S1, S2, S3A, S3B, S4) in a first sequence of operating phases to perform an up-conversion; and in a second sequence of operating phases to perform a down conversion.
